Fake Lawyer Convicted After 9 Years Of Practice In Osun
A 50-year-old man, Hasan Olalere, has been convicted by an Osun State Magistrates Court in Osogbo for illegally practicing as a lawyer for nine years. The court’s ruling on Friday resulted in Olalere’s remand in a correctional facility on a charge of impersonation.
According to police prosecutor Kayode Adeoye, Olalere committed the offense between September 1, 2015, and September 5, 2024, in Zone 9, Capital Hotel Area of Osogbo. He stated, “The defendant impersonated a lawyer, which is an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 108 of the Criminal Code CAP 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”
Olalere, represented by his counsel Remigus Nwgu, pleaded guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba convicted Olalere based on his plea and ordered his remand at the Ilesha correctional center. The case was adjourned to September 27, 2024, for the prosecution to present further details.
Reacting to the conviction, Yemi Abiona, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Osogbo branch, condemned Olalere’s actions.
