Fake Lawyer Busted By NBA Udu Branch In Delta State
Members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Udu Branch, Delta State, led by David Omage, apprehended a man impersonating a lawyer on Tuesday. The suspect, Olubuwe Ossai Silas, was caught posing as Simon Sabuke and engaging in illegal legal activities.
Reports indicate that Silas was caught red-handed affixing a lawyer’s seal to documents and preparing legal paperwork using the names of actual lawyers.
The Chairman of the NBA Udu Branch, Edmund Odohisi, promptly reported the incident to the Ovwian Police Station, where Silas is now in custody.
“The Divisional Police Officer has assured us that the case will be thoroughly investigated and will serve as a deterrent to others engaging in similar fraudulent acts,” Odohisi said.
Odohisi emphasized the NBA’s commitment to safeguarding the legal profession from quacks and impostors. “This incident underscores our zero-tolerance policy towards infiltrators in the legal profession. The full extent of the law must be applied in this case,” he stated.
The NBA Udu Branch has been proactive in addressing such issues, previously warning against unauthorized use of NBA car stickers by non-lawyers.
“With this development, we reaffirm our dedication to upholding the integrity of the legal profession,” Odohisi concluded.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to protect the profession’s credibility and deter fraudulent activities within the legal community.
