Fabian Ajogwu Appointed Chairman Of Guinness Nigeria As Omobola Johnson Retires

 

Mr. Fabian Ajogwu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has been named the new chairman of Guinness Nigeria Plc, succeeding Ms. Omobola Johnson, who officially retires from the role on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Ajogwu, an independent non-executive director of the brewery giant, brings extensive expertise in board governance, strategic leadership, and business development. His contributions as chair of the nominations, governance, and remuneration committee, as well as his role on the board finance, audit, and risk committee, have been instrumental in ensuring robust governance and fortifying the company during challenging periods.

Ms. Johnson steps down after nine years on the board, including a tenure as chairman that began on July 1, 2021. During her leadership, Guinness Nigeria recorded significant milestones, including consistent revenue growth and strategic advancements. She has been credited with fostering a culture of excellence and providing exemplary leadership that shaped the company’s strategic direction.

The board, management, and staff of Guinness Nigeria expressed their deep appreciation for her dedication and invaluable contributions, wishing her the best in her retirement.

Also departing is Ms. Ngozi Edozien, who retired as an independent non-executive director on November 27, 2024, after completing her tenure.

In a related development, Guinness Nigeria announced the appointment of Mrs. Olusola Oworu and Mrs. Bola Adesola as independent non-executive directors. Their appointments, effective February 1, 2025, are subject to shareholder approval at the company’s next Annual General Meeting.
