ESQ Legal Icon Of The Year: Y. C. Maikyau, SAN Bags Prestigious Award

Awards are given to persons to show approval and gratitude for excellent works. It makes the awardee understand that individuals are watching and certainly aware of his/her outstanding accomplishments and contributions.
It was therefore no surprise to many as Yakubu C. Maikyau, SAN, FCIArb (UK), principal partner at Abuja and Sokoto-based law firm of Y.C. Maikyau and Co. was recently recognized as the “ESQ. Legal Icon of the Year” at the ESQ Nigerian Legal Awards 2021.
ESQ Nigerian Legal Awards was birthed by ESQ Legal Practice Magazine, an innovative media company that covers the African legal environment. The theme of this year’s ESQ Legal Awards which held on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at the prestigious Landmark Event Center in Oniru, Lagos is ‘Celebrating the Important Contribution of Nigerian Lawyers to Businesses.’

Maikyau, SAN, who is the current Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Welfare Committee, is a graduate of Law from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the Nigerian Law School. He was admitted as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in December, 1990, after which he commenced his career with the law firm of Danladi Bamaiyi and Company, where he rose to become the Head of Chambers. He left the services of the firm on the 6th of August, 2003 to launch the firm of Y. C Maikyau and Co., with offices in Abuja and Sokoto, Nigeria.
Maikyau, SAN, is a courtroom genius, a quintessential Bar man and a philanthropist. Under his leadership, the Welfare Committee of the NBA has unveiled life-touching schemes including Law Pavilion deals and Medical Insurance schemes under the current administration in the NBA.
