Enugu Woman Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Stepson, Breaking His Leg
The Enugu State Government has arrested Ada Ogbogu, who allegedly assaulted her 3-year-old stepson, Kaitochikwu, using a pestle, breaking his thigh bone in the process. This intervention came after a concerned neighbor reported the incident on social media, prompting swift action by state authorities.
Mrs. Ngozi Enih, Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, led the response after receiving a tip-off on Friday. According to the neighbor’s account, the child’s cries prompted a break-in, where they found him unable to stand with a visibly injured leg. The child was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital in Enugu, where X-rays confirmed a broken femur.
Announcing Ogbogu’s arrest on Saturday, Enih stated, “Upon receiving the report, we immediately coordinated with the police and located the suspect at the National Orthopaedic Hospital Enugu, where she was taken into custody.” The commissioner added, “We also visited the boy at his bedside and met with the doctors treating him. It is heart-wrenching to witness such cruelty, especially to a child so young.”
Governor Peter Mbah’s administration has declared a “zero-tolerance” policy on child abuse. “Governor Mbah has pledged that no child will suffer abuse under his watch,” Enih emphasized. Meanwhile, the governor’s wife, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, has expressed deep concern, pledging to oversee the boy’s recovery and ensure that justice is served.
The case remains under police investigation, and authorities assure that Ogbogu will face the full extent of the law.
