Ekiti Varsity Receives Multi-Million-Naira Senate Building Donated By Chief Wole Olanipekun

The Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science, and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), has received a state-of-the-art senate building courtesy of legal luminary and former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president, Chief Wole Olanipekun. The unveiling of the multi-million-naira facility took place on November 28, 2024, bringing joy to the university and Ikere-Ekiti community.

The inauguration ceremony attracted an array of dignitaries, including Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji; Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa; former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; and other prominent figures such as Lanre Tejuosho, alternate chairman of the Forum of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities, and retired Bishop of Akure Anglican Diocese, Michael Ipinmoye.

Chief Olanipekun, the university’s chancellor, explained that the two-story building was completed in just eight months, despite the prevailing economic challenges, as part of his commitment to improving education in Ekiti State. He described the structure as a modern facility designed to support administrative efficiency and rival similar buildings in older institutions like the University of Ibadan.

The building includes several advanced features:

  • Ground Floor: Reception, security office, drivers’ lounge, offices for deputy vice-chancellors, meeting rooms, and utility spaces.
  • First Floor: Registrar’s office, bursary offices, a 150-capacity senate chamber, and storage facilities.
  • Second Floor: Vice-chancellor’s offices, governing council chambers, conference rooms, and modern conveniences, including 43 restrooms and a water supply system with a 6,200-litre overhead tank.

Governor Oyebanji lauded Olanipekun’s philanthropic contributions, highlighting the immense value of his efforts in education and community development. “Chief Wole Olanipekun, alongside Baba Afe Babalola, remains one of the most consistent contributors to Ekiti State’s progress,” the governor said.

Minister of Education, Dr. Alausa, praised the initiative as a model for national growth. “This building symbolizes a commitment to excellence and a brighter future for education in Nigeria. I urge other Nigerians to emulate this noble gesture,” he remarked.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa expressed gratitude, noting the structure’s impact on the institution’s administrative efficiency and overall development.

This donation aligns with Olanipekun’s broader philanthropic efforts, including scholarship programs and empowerment initiatives benefiting students, women, and the elderly.
