Ekiti LG Supervisors, Advisers Take Oath Of Office With Cutlass, Quran

Supervisors and advisers of Ikere-Ekiti Local Government Area in Ekiti State were inaugurated in a ceremony that blended traditional and religious elements as they took their oath of office alongside an ‘Ògún’ totem and the Holy Quran.

The event, which took place on May 2nd, unfolded at the Conference Hall of the LGA chairman’s office, presided over by Olu Adamolekun.

During the ceremony, the appointees were administered the oath of office by Adamolekun. In a video circulating on social media, the appointees were seen holding a cutlass, symbolizing the deity ‘Ògún’ in one hand and the Quran in the other, as they recited their oath.

As part of the oath, Adamolekun instructed the appointees to pledge loyalty and truthfulness to BAO (Ekiti State governor), Monisade (deputy governor), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and its leaders in the state.

In Yoruba, they repeated the pledge: “From today, I will be loyal and truthful to BAO, Monisade, APC, and its leaders. I will take instructions from the leaders. If I refuse to do so, Ogun or the Quran should kill me. For this, I will be truthful.”

Traditionally, public officeholders swear an oath of office using the Quran or Bible to signify their commitment to upholding the Constitution. However, in this instance, the appointees swore allegiance to the APC and its leaders in Ekiti State, invoking a deity as well.
