EFCC Issues Strong Warning To Skit Makers Over Unauthorized Use Of Uniforms In Videos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to skit makers and content creators, condemning the misuse of its uniforms and symbols in online videos. This follows the resurfacing of an old skit titled “EFCC and Army Wahala” on social media, which depicts alleged EFCC officers behaving unprofessionally.

In a statement, the EFCC described the skit as a “caricature” that misrepresents the agency’s procedures. The video shows supposed EFCC operatives bullying and terrorizing individuals, a portrayal the Commission finds harmful to its image. “The shameful depiction of supposed EFCC operatives terrorizing ‘suspects’ is not only embarrassing but also a clear effort to tarnish the image of the Commission,” the statement read.

The EFCC stressed that its officers are well-trained professionals who conduct their duties with civility and respect when dealing with suspects of financial crimes. The agency also warned against the unauthorized use of its uniforms, badges, and other official symbols, stating that such actions violate operational standards and mislead the public.

Urging skit makers to act responsibly, the EFCC cautioned against using law enforcement insignia without permission, as it misrepresents the Commission’s work and undermines public trust. This is not the first time the EFCC has raised concerns about the misuse of its uniforms in skits. The agency’s latest warning underscores its commitment to protecting the integrity of its operations and maintaining public confidence.
