EFCC Detains Cubana Chief Priest Over Alleged Naira Abuse, Set For Arraignment Today

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, ahead of his scheduled arraignment today before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Cubana Chief Priest faces charges related to the abuse of the Nigerian currency, as he allegedly sprayed and tampered with Naira notes during a social event, violating the Central Bank Act of 2007.

EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the detention, stating, “Cubana Chief Priest is in our custody and will be arraigned in court tomorrow.”

The charges, filed on April 4, 2024, accuse Okechukwu of similar offenses on different occasions, including an incident at Eko Hotel in February 2024 and another in Lagos in 2020.

This follows the recent conviction of Bobrisky on similar charges, underscoring the EFCC’s crackdown on Naira abuse among celebrities.

In response to public criticism, the EFCC clarified its focus on investigating new cases of Naira abuse, emphasizing its commitment to upholding the sanctity of the national currency.

As the EFCC continues its efforts to combat Naira abuse, Okechukwu’s case highlights the agency’s determination to hold individuals accountable for financial misconduct.
