Edo Tribunal Dismisses Action Alliance’s Petition Against Governor Okpebholo

The Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja has dismissed the petition filed by the Action Alliance (AA) and its candidate, Adekunle Omoaje, challenging the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In its ruling on Wednesday, the three-member panel described the petition as lacking merit and frivolous. The petitioners had alleged electoral malpractice and non-compliance with the Electoral Act in the September 21, 2024, governorship election. They also argued that Okpebholo did not secure the majority of lawful votes and that INEC’s declaration of his victory was unconstitutional.
However, the tribunal ruled that Omoaje lacked the legal standing to challenge the election since he did not participate in the poll. It further stated that his claims regarding AA’s internal nomination issues had no legal basis under the Electoral Act 2022.
With this judgment, the tribunal upheld Okpebholo’s victory, reaffirming his election as the duly elected governor of Edo State.
