Edo State House Of Assembly Impeaches Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu
In a dramatic turn of events, the Edo State House of Assembly has impeached the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, on Monday. The impeachment came after the adoption of the report of a seven-man investigative panel set up by the Assembly to probe allegations of misconduct against Shaibu.
The investigative panel, led by Justice S.A. Omonua concluded its proceedings on Friday after thoroughly examining the allegations leveled against Shaibu. These allegations primarily focused on charges of gross misconduct and perjury.
The panel was constituted by the Chief Judge of Edo State, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, on March 22, 2024, in response to the Assembly’s resolution to investigate the impeachment petition against the deputy governor.
Apart from Justice Omonua, other members of the investigative panel included Professor Theresa Akpoghome, Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu, Surveyor Andrew Oliha, Idris Abdulkareen, President Aigbokhian, and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare.
