Edo Governor Okpebholo Extends Magistrates’ Retirement Age To 65

 

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has signed a bill into law raising the retirement age of magistrates from 60 to 65 years.

The governor described the move as a milestone for the state judiciary, emphasizing its potential to enhance the administration of justice. “This legislative action aims to improve judicial efficiency and allow experienced magistrates to continue contributing their expertise for a longer period,” he stated.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Fred Itua.

Governor Okpebholo also approved a separate bill to increase the membership of the state’s oil agency. The expansion is intended to enhance governance, representation, and operational efficiency in managing Edo’s oil resources.

The governor highlighted the significance of these legislative actions in strengthening institutions essential for justice and economic development.

“These initiatives align with our vision of promoting judicial integrity and optimizing the benefits of our natural resources for the people,” he said.

The changes are expected to bolster the state’s judiciary and foster sustainable economic growth.
