Edo Assembly Recalls Two Suspended Lawmakers After Five-Month Hiatus
The Edo State House of Assembly has officially recalled two suspended lawmakers, Donald Okogbe and Adeh Isibor, following a five-month suspension.
On May 6, the assembly had suspended Donald Okogbe (PDP-Akoko-Edo II), Adeh Isibor (APC-Esan North-East I), and Bright Iyamu (Orhionmwon South) over allegations of plotting to impeach the Speaker and other principal officers. Bright Iyamu was reinstated in June after expressing remorse, as noted by Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.
During Wednesday’s plenary session in Benin, Speaker Agbebaku announced that the assembly had decided to lift the suspension on Okogbe and Isibor. He also extended congratulations to the state governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, on his victory in the recent governorship election, emphasizing that the governor-elect would serve all the people of Edo, regardless of political affiliation. Agbebaku expressed hope that sycophants would not misguide the new leader.
Welcoming members back from a lengthy recess, the Speaker commended the lawmakers for their dedication in passing significant bills and resolutions. Additionally, the assembly approved a 57-sitting day calendar for the second quarter of its second session.
