ECWA Leaders Accused Of Crossing Legal And Moral Lines

The leadership of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) is facing accusations of brazen defiance of court orders.

At the heart of the dispute is ECWA’s plan to inaugurate executives for a new Kano Central District Church Council (DCC), which prompted some members to drag the trustees of the church and others to court.

Counsel for the plaintiffs, Usman Ashafa Esq., in a statement made available to The Metro Lawyer news desk said the church’s actions breach moral, legal, and spiritual standards. He noted that ECWA, which preaches obedience to God and lawful authority, allegedly disregarded multiple court orders. Ashafa argued that the move violates Section 64 of the ECWA Constitution and Bye-Laws. He said the decision also defies subsisting court orders restraining the creation of the council.

The Legal Timeline They Cannot Deny
First, Justice Aisha Mahmood of the Kano State High Court ordered ECWA to maintain the status quo ante bellum. The directive stopped any creation of a new Kano DCC.

However, on April 29, 2025, ECWA leaders allegedly ignored the order during their Annual General Church Council meeting. They split Kano DCC and named a new body, “Kano Central DCC.”

Then, on May 10, 2025, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel O. Malomo and five others were elected as executives. Two additional courts—Kano High Court (Ungogo Division) and High Court Vacation No. 2—issued fresh orders halting the inauguration. Both were ignored.

Names Behind the Actions
Usman Ashafa Esq says ECWA executives and trustees deliberately sanctioned these moves. He claims they acted with full awareness of the court directives. According to him, their conduct shows coordinated contempt for judicial authority.

A Call for Immediate Accountability
Ashafa demands urgent intervention from the Kano Commissioner of Police and the DSS Director. He insists the leaders be questioned and, if necessary, charged with contempt of court.

The Shame of the Matter
Ashafa, in his statement maintained that, ” For a church to stand accused of lawlessness is a disgrace. For its leaders to repeatedly ignore court orders, knowing they are under public and legal scrutiny, is an affront to both the judiciary and the Christian faith they represent. ECWA’s actions set a dangerous precedent—one that suggests moral authority is only a slogan when it becomes inconvenient to follow the law.”

“If ECWA leaders cannot obey the very laws they expect members to respect, then they have no moral standing to preach obedience from the pulpit. Until they comply fully with all subsisting court orders, the public, law enforcement, and the courts must hold them accountable—not as pastors, but as citizens under the same law as everyone else,” he concluded.

At as press time, FORM 48 has already been issued and served on Rev. Dr. Emmanuel O. Malomo and his team for disobeying the court orders.
