DPO To Face Disciplinary Action For Assaulting FIDA Official In Rivers

The DPO was accused of “assaulting” a member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers alongside an official from the state Ministry of Social Welfare.
The police officer was reported to have seized the mobile phones of the members of FIDA, the social welfare officials, detained them for more than 4 hours and threatened to deal with them over an issue about the recovery of an abandoned baby.
The FIDA member had discovered an abandoned baby in a church around the area and reported it to the Police division.
However, a disagreement ensued over the right institution to take custody of the baby.
FIDA said through its state chairperson, Adata Bio-Briggs; that an official of the organisation had asked that the baby be taken to the ministry of social welfare but the DPO allegedly insisted that the baby be taken to an orphanage home in the area.
Speaking during a meeting with officials of FIDA in his office in Port Harcourt, the CP condemned the action of the DPO and further apologized to the organization.
