“Don’t Settle For Tokenism, Take Your Place”- NBA President Urges Women Lawyers At NBAWF Conference

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, attended the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Bar Association Women’s Forum (NBAWF) Annual Conference in Abuja, themed: “From Promise to Action: Achieving Gender Parity for Lasting Change.”
In his address, the NBA President reminded conferees that “a woman with a voice is a strong woman.” He emphasized that female lawyers must not only possess a voice but must also use it to demonstrate strength and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
He underscored that women must not settle for tokenism but must stand firmly for what rightfully belongs to them. “We can lament about the lack of gender parity,” he noted, “but it is only through deliberate action that the gap between men and women in the legal profession will be bridged.”
Mazi Afam Osigwe expressed confidence that the conversations and engagements at the conference would go beyond rhetoric and catalyze real change, ensuring that women assume their rightful place in the legal profession and in society at large.
He concluded by wishing all participants a successful and impactful conference.
