Dismissed Lagos Naval Rating Arrested For Impersonation

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a dismissed naval rating, Ifeanyi Ekeh, for impersonation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Ekeh’s arrest in a tweet on Wednesday.

He noted that during investigation, it was discovered that Ekeh, who was recruited into the Nigerian Navy in 2010, was dismissed a year after.

The PPRO noted that the suspect would soon be charged to court.

The tweet read, “Officers of the Orile division of the Lagos State Police Command yesterday (Tuesday) arrested a fake naval rating, Ekeh Ifeanyi.

“Investigations reveal he was recruited into the Nigerian Navy in 2010 and dismissed in 2011 from the Naval Ordnance Depot, Navy Town, Lagos. Arraignment follows.”

Attached to the post was a picture of the suspect, who was dressed in a military uniform.

In Nigeria, cases of people perpetrating crimes using military uniforms are on the rise.

To curb the crime, the Nigerian military warned members of the public, including ex-servicemen, to desist from using any military insignia.
