Denmark To Implement Smartphone Ban Law In Schools

Denmark has announced plans to ban smartphone in schools under new legislation, as revealed by Education Minister Mattias Tesfaye on Tuesday. The government is preparing legal changes to enforce this ban, which will prohibit the use of mobile phones and personal tablets both during classes and breaks.
The decision is supported by Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt, who emphasized, “Screens are robbing many of our children of their childhood.” This move follows recommendations from a youth wellbeing commission, which suggested restricting smartphone use to children aged 13 and older.
However, the commission’s president, Rasmus Meyer, cautioned against legally enforcing age limits. He highlighted concerns that smartphones in children’s bedrooms can negatively impact self-esteem and overall wellbeing.

The specific details of the ban are still being finalized, but the initiative aims to address growing concerns about the impact of screen time on children’s development and mental health.
