Delta Assembly Holds Anti-Open Grazing Bill Public Hearing Monday

The Delta State House of Assembly has fixed public hearing for the state’s anti-open grazing bill for Monday at the Press Centre of the House of Assembly Complex, Asaba, at 10am.

To this end, the Assembly called for memoranda on the bill, which is to provide for a law for the regulation of livestock breeding, rearing and marketing and to prohibit open grazing and related matters in the state.

The public hearing is being organised by the House joint Committee on Special Bills and that of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

The Chairman of the Joint Committee, Pat Ajudua, in a statement on Wednesday, requested memoranda from critical stakeholders, including “the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Director of Livestock, Ministry of Agriculture, the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Board of Internal Revenue, the state Cattle Dealers and Rearers Association, the Butchers Union of Nigeria, Farmers Associations and Civil Society Organisations.”

The statement added that all memoranda should be submitted at the Delta State House of Assembly Complex before 9.30am on Monday July 26, 2021.
