Court Removes MC Oluomo As NURTW President, Affirms Baruwa’s Leadership
The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court has removed Musiliu Akinsanya, known as MC Oluomo, from his role as National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). In a decisive ruling, the court confirmed Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate President of the union.
This ruling upholds the earlier judgment by the Industrial Court on March 11, 2024, under Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023. The appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by Najeem Usman Yasin, Tajudeen Agbede, and others, finding it lacked merit.
The judgment, delivered by a three-member panel consisting of Justices Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi (Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/293/2024), also included a N100,000 cost awarded to the respondents. The court’s decision solidifies Baruwa’s position as the legally elected NURTW President.
MC Oluomo, who was recently sworn in as President, faced criticism from Baruwa, who called the move a blatant disregard for the rule of law and a challenge to judicial authority. Baruwa made these remarks during a press conference in Abuja.
