Council For Legal Education Lifts Ban On Bingham University, Approves Law School Mobilisation For Graduates

The Council for Legal Education has officially lifted a ban on Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State, which had been imposed due to violations of operational rules governing legal education. With this decision, the Council has approved that 131 law graduates from the university’s 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 academic sessions may now proceed to the Nigerian Law School to continue their legal training.

The development was announced by Bingham University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Kuje Ayuba, during the institution’s fifth combined convocation ceremony over the weekend. Prof. Ayuba celebrated the Council’s decision and outlined several other notable achievements, including the recent induction of 123 Bingham-trained medical doctors by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) in 2024. Additionally, he noted that 134 Medical Laboratory Science students were indexed by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), which also accredited the university’s Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) program.

Further accreditation successes highlighted by the Vice-Chancellor included the full accreditation of Bingham University’s Architecture program by the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and a five-year accreditation from the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) for the university’s advertising program within its Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. Prof. Ayuba also reported that in December 2023, the National Universities Commission (NUC) accredited nine of Bingham’s academic programs, granting full accreditation status to seven programs and interim status to two.

The Vice-Chancellor also used the occasion to address ongoing challenges at Bingham University, including the urgent need for additional laboratories, libraries, classrooms, and facilities on its Jos campus, as well as expansions to the health center, chapel, and ICT infrastructure on campus.

At the fifth combined convocation ceremony, the university conferred degrees on 2,217 students who successfully completed both their academic and non-academic requirements, having been found worthy in character and learning. Prof. Ayuba emphasised the institution’s commitment to upholding high academic and ethical standards as Bingham University continues to grow and contribute to Nigeria’s educational landscape.
