 Committee Unveils Funeral Plans For Late Constitutional Lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN)

 

The National Committee for the Burial of Prof. Ben Nwabueze (SAN), co-chaired by former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, and President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuayanwu, has disclosed the comprehensive funeral arrangements for the late constitutional lawyer.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary of the National Burial Committee, Olawale Okunniyi, the detailed plan for the funeral rites of Nwabueze, who served as the Chairman of Eminent National Leaders of Nigeria, commonly known as The Patriots, until his demise, was unveiled.

The burial plan is set to commence with a Valedictory Court Session on February 22, 2024, at the State High Court Premises in Ikeja, Lagos State. Presided over by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, the session will commence at 2 pm.

On February 23, 2024, a Day of Tributes will be held in Lagos at the Harbour Point Event Centre, located at Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, starting at 2 pm.

Subsequently, on February 29, 2024, a Private Burial Ceremony for family members will take place in Atani, Anambra State, followed by a National Tributes and Celebration of Life event on March 1, 2024, also in Atani, Anambra State, commencing at 12 noon.

March 18, 2024, will witness a significant event – a National Colloquium/Dialogue at the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) on Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. Organized by The Patriots, the colloquium will coincide with the 10th Year Anniversary of the Nigerian National Confab of 2014, inaugurated on March 17, 2014, by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Okunniyi emphasized the historical significance of the National Colloquium, which is being organized to honor Nwabueze, a key advocate of the 2014 National Confab. Chief Emeka Anyaoku, now Chairman of The Patriots, will chair the event.
