CJN Kekere-Ekun Summons Judges Over Conflicting Political Rulings In Rivers State

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has summoned judges linked to contradictory rulings on political cases in Rivers State. A National Judicial Council (NJC) panel, led by a former Court of Appeal justice along with two heads of courts, will investigate these judges, with the report due this week.

In addition, the CJN has called the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for questioning on Tuesday, following formal complaints submitted to the NJC. The Chief Judge of the Rivers State High Court is also set to appear before the NJC panel next week.

This action aligns with Justice Kekere-Ekun’s commitment to judicial integrity, voiced during her Senate confirmation on September 25. She pledged to enforce “zero tolerance for corruption” and emphasized, “I am known for integrity and discipline.” Justice Kekere-Ekun also stressed the importance of shielding the judiciary, improving judicial officers’ welfare, and upholding stringent standards in judicial appointments.
