CJN Attributes Poor Justice Delivery To Ineffective Court Management
Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has called on court administrators to develop strategic plans that align with institutional objectives to improve justice delivery. Justice Ariwoola made this appeal at the opening of a national workshop on court management and administration. The workshop, organized for chief registrars, heads of judicial service committees, and directors and deputy directors of the judiciary, was held in a hybrid format.
Themed “Nurturing High Standards of Performance for Better Service Delivery,” the workshop was organized by the National Judiciary Institute (NJI) to help court managers enhance the efficiency of the court system and services.
Represented by Justice Emmanuel Agim, a Supreme Court Justice, the CJN attributed the poor justice delivery in Nigeria to ineffective and improperly managed courts. He stressed that efficient management is crucial for effective justice delivery in the country.
Justice Ariwoola urged court heads, managers, and administrators to uphold the code of conduct for court staff to enhance service delivery. He emphasized the importance of a respectful, cordial, and transparent relationship between court administrators and judges, who rely on their support.
“Court managers must be respectful, cordial, and transparent in their dealings with judicial officers, who rely on their support. Cooperation is key; ensure you lighten the burden of the court by performing your duties efficiently and in line with global best practices,” Justice Ariwoola stated.
In his welcome address, the NJI administrator, Salisu Garba, highlighted the need for court services to evolve with societal changes. He noted that the increasing role of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the last quarter of the 20th century has prompted judicial systems worldwide to modernize their operations.
Justice Garba informed participants that the workshop would provide essential information on ICT tools to improve court services, aligning them with modern realities and best practices.
