CJN Ariwoola Urges Harmony Among Judges And Lawyers At 2024 Bar And Bench Golf Tournament
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON, has emphasized the importance of cooperation between Judges and Lawyers for an effective justice system. He made this call while inaugurating the 2024 Bar and Bench Golf Tournament held in Abuja.
Organized by the Court of Appeal, this year’s tournament marked the fifth edition, featuring the inaugural edition of Table Tennis alongside golf.
Represented by the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Justice Benedict Kanyip, the CJN commended the initiative, highlighting the significance of sports as a means for legal professionals to unwind and stay physically active amidst their demanding roles.
Justice Ariwoola stressed that engaging in sports activities doesn’t diminish the understanding of professional responsibilities but rather serves as a means to foster camaraderie and relaxation.
In her remarks, President of the Court of Appeal (PCA), Hon. Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, echoed the sentiment, underscoring sports as a unifying force that bridges the gap between the Bar and Bench. She emphasized the need for such tournaments to provide avenues for leisure and friendship-building outside the courtroom.
Justice Dongban-Mensem further hinted at the possibility of incorporating additional sports in future editions, recognizing the diverse talents among legal professionals.
The Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Mr. Umar Bangari, emphasized the importance of the tournament in offering a break from the year-long serious legal engagements, providing a platform for interaction and relaxation.
The event highlighted the significance of fostering cooperation and camaraderie among legal professionals through sports, contributing to a more cohesive legal community.
