The Abuja Branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria has announced the election of Barrister Chioma Onyenucheya-Uko as its new chairperson. A distinguished private legal practitioner, Onyenucheya-Uko is a seasoned expert in family law, a certified arbitrator, mediator, and a staunch advocate for gender equality.

Her election signals a significant moment for the organization, with expectations of renewed efforts to champion women’s rights and strengthen family law advocacy in the nation’s capital.

Barrister Onyenucheya-Uko’s extensive leadership experience includes serving as Vice-Chair of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Abuja Branch, Chair of its Human Rights Committee, and Publicity Secretary of FIDA Abuja.

Beyond her professional achievements, she is recognised for hosting Late Night Intercourse, a family law talk show that promotes healthy marital and family relationships through empathy and legal insight.

Her emergence as FIDA Abuja Chairperson, after a keen contest with opponent, Mojirayo Ogunlana, has been widely applauded as a strategic step towards empowering women and addressing critical issues affecting families and gender equality.

Onyenucheya-Uko’s tenure is expected to build on FIDA Abuja’s legacy of promoting the rights of women and children while fostering a supportive environment for legal practitioners in the branch.
