Chidiebere Nwabueze Udekwe, Esq. Picks NBA Abuja Branch (Unity Bar) Chairmanship Nomination Form

Mr Chidi Udekwe, Esq has today picked the nomination form to contest in the forth coming Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja branch (Unity Bar) elections scheduled to hold on 9th June, 2022. Udekwe was accompanied to the Branch Secretariat by members of the ESUT LAW CLASS of 2004 and a deluge of other Lawyers to pick up the nomination form for the post of Chairman.
While picking the form, Udekwe noted that he is aware of the petition against the constitution of the Electoral Committee and other reservations and concerns expressed by some members. He stated that despite the issues which he believes will be addressed accordingly, he has confidence in the composition of the Committee.
He further suggested that the Committee may need to have an interface with all aspirants where the electoral process will be subjected to objective interrogations so as to achieve a free and fair election. This, according to him, would douse the tension already generated by the exercise so far.
In his reaction, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee Salawu Olatunji ESQ assured the entourage that the election will be free and fair. He further stated that the suggestion to have an audience with all aspirants is a welcome innovation and same will be considered soon after nomination ends so as to ascertain the number of aspirants to engage with.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the ESUT LAW CLASS 2004, Okwudiri Nwankwo Esq stated that Udekwe has shown capacity to lead at various times, right from his University days in Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).
The Chairman reiterated how Udekwe’s leadership qualities endeared him to become the Publicity Secretary in 2002 and President of the Student Union Government in 2003 of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). The Chairman was of the view that Udekwe’s track records in leadership remain indelible.
In further elucidation on the admirable personality of Chidi Udekwe, a member of the delegation and the Secretary of Otu Okaiwu, Dr. Nicholas Udeh informed TML news crew that Udekwe’s leadership acumen was brought to bear in the Lagos campus of the Nigeria Law school, where he was unanimously elected into the Students Representative Council (SRC) in 2005.
He is presently, the President of Ex-ESUT Leaders Association of Nigeria, Abuja Chapter and President International Human Rights Protection Forum, FCT Chapter.
Available information reveals that after his call to the Nigerian Bar in 2006, Chidi Udekwe joined the Unity Bar in 2009. In 2010, the then Chairman of the Branch, Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN appointed Udekwe as the Chairman of the Young Lawyers’ Forum due to his exemplary efforts in Bar activities.
During his tenure as Chairman of the Young Lawyers’ Forum, he successfully conducted the first summit of Young Lawyers for the Unity Bar which attracted notable personalities including the likes of Kanu Agabi, SAN who delivered the lead paper.
In 2012, Udekwe became the Provost of the branch and improved on the innovations made by his predecessor, Christopher Eichie Esq. His innovations made the position more functional that till date, members of the Branch are yet to forget the young man usually adorned with a sash inscribed “PROVOST”, which he procured at his own cost. The way and manner he called attention of members to meetings with the tingling bell remains admirable and unmatched!
Another senior lawyer who was interviewed recalled that Udekwe was disqualified in 2016 branch election but he took it in good faith and never withdrew from participating in Branch activities. In fact, he became more committed to Branch activities and executed Committee responsibilities diligently. It is noteworthy to state that Udekwe campaigned to become the Secretary of the Branch, but was prevailed upon to step down for the interest of entire Igbo stock despite his overwhelming popularity.
Udekwe has a robust practice being the Principal Counsel of C N. Udekwe Law Firm based in Abuja and some other cities and would deploy his years of experience in uplifting the Bar.
Eudorah Ezeonye, a former Young Lawyers executive who was interviewed by our correspondent echoed Udekwe’s widespread acceptance by both Senior and Young Lawyers.
The Secretary of the Young Lawyers Forum, Clement Igata Esq. who was also present at the event agreed with Eudorah and intoned that Chidi Udekwe who presents as a bridge builder, has the pedigree to bring a New Orientation of Service to the Unity Bar.
