Businessman Sentenced To Life For Raping 12-Year-Old Daughter

A 34-year-old businessman, Oluwafemi Asekeji, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his 12-year-old daughter.

The Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court found Asekeji guilty of raping his child in June 2020. According to the victim’s testimony, Asekeji, who was drunk at the time, instructed his daughter to undress and then proceeded to sexually abuse her. He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the abuse.

The court heard evidence from several key witnesses, including the victim’s grandmother, who testified that the girl had confided in her about the incident. The medical report also confirmed that the victim had been sexually assaulted.

In delivering the judgment, Justice Abiola Soladoye stated that the prosecution had successfully proven the three elements of the rape charge against Asekeji. The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment and ordered that his name be included in the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency commended the court’s decision, stating that it sends a strong message that such heinous crimes will not be tolerated. The agency also urged the public to report any cases of sexual abuse to the relevant authorities.
