BREAKING: Port Harcourt Lawyer Shot Dead In His Community, Police Launch Investigation

A prominent lawyer, Bright Nda Owhor, Esq. has been confirmed dead following a tragic shooting incident in Port Harcourt.

According to information from family sources, Owhor was attacked around 8:00 p.m. on July 5, 2025, shortly after shopping at a supermarket on Okigwe Street in Rumuomasi, his hometown in Port Harcourt. Witnesses reported that three armed men entered his car and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene without stealing anything.

Despite immediate efforts to save his life, the Owhor’s condition worsened. He was first rushed to Save a Life Hospital, where he was allegedly denied treatment. A second attempt was made at St. Martin’s Hospital on Stadium Road, but the situation remained unchanged.

He was finally taken to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, where he was placed on oxygen. Sadly, he died around 2:00 a.m. this morning July 6, 2025.

His colleagues and residents expressed shock over the killing of the respected Port Harcourt lawyer, describing it as a blow to the legal community. Many have questioned the refusal of nearby hospitals to admit a gunshot victim in critical condition.

The Port Harcourt Police Command has launched a full investigation into the killing of Mr Bright Owhor. Authorities have also closed down the supermarket where the incident took place, as part of ongoing inquiries.

This tragic event has raised fresh concerns about the safety of legal practitioners in Nigeria and the responsiveness of emergency medical facilities. The legal community is calling for a thorough probe and swift justice for the murdered lawyer.
