BREAKING: Edo State Governor Orders Freezing Of State Bank Accounts, Reverts Ministry Name
The directive, issued in a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Ituah, warns that anyone, including MDA heads and civil servants, who disobeys the order will face serious consequences. “All bank accounts in all the commercial banks have been frozen. Commercial banks must comply with the order and ensure that not a dime is taken out of the coffers of government until there is further notice,” the statement said.
Governor Okpebholo also announced that the Ministry of Roads and Bridges will revert to the Ministry of Works, a name change originally made during the tenure of former Governor Godwin Obaseki. He criticized the previous administration, stating, “It is ironic to call it the Ministry of Roads and Bridges when no bridges, not even pedestrian ones, were constructed under that administration.”
The governor added that in the coming days, further actions may be taken to address other policies of the past administration in the interest of the state.
