Benue Judiciary Workers Suspend Strike, Resume Work After Five-Month Shutdown

Judiciary workers in Benue State have ended their five-month-long strike and ordered an immediate return to work.
JUSUN Calls Off Industrial Action
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) announced the suspension on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The strike had crippled court operations since late 2024.
Dispute Centered on Minimum Wage Demands
The workers began the indefinite strike due to unresolved issues with the state government over the implementation of the new minimum wage. During the strike, courts across Benue State halted all judicial activities, leaving cases unattended.
National Leadership Directs Suspension
JUSUN State Chairman, Aba Terlumum, confirmed that the union’s national leadership ordered the suspension. He noted that the Benue State Government had shown willingness to address the union’s concerns.
All Judiciary Workers Ordered to Resume
Terlumum directed all judiciary staff in Benue to resume duties without delay on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. He also urged members to refrain from escalating the matter further.
Appreciation for Members’ Support
He commended union members for their unity and cooperation throughout the extended industrial action. “Your resilience has brought us this far,” he stated.
Legal Activities Set to Resume
With the strike suspended, courts in Benue State are expected to reopen, and legal proceedings will resume after months of inactivity.
