Avoid Costly Mistakes: Get Accurate Information Before Relocating Abroad, Nigerians Warned

Nigerians planning to relocate abroad for better opportunities must seek accurate information from reputable travel agencies, experts warn.
Many Nigerians Face Depression Abroad Due to Misinformation
UK-based immigration lawyer and Country Director of TCL Global, Tunde Salami, revealed that many Nigerians in the UK are battling depression.
He said most fell into emotional and financial distress due to poor preparation and misinformation before migrating.
Salami made this revelation during the TCL Global Study Abroad Expo held at Jagz Hotel, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Nigerians Sold Properties to Chase False “Caregiver Certificates”
Salami explained that many Nigerians sold assets—cars, homes, and land—to secure Certificates of Sponsorship (CEOS) fraudulently.
He emphasized that genuine CEOS, required for caregiver roles in the UK, are completely free.
“Some people paid up to ₦40 million for certificates they could get at no cost if they followed the right process,” he said.
He warned that most of these CEOS certificates sold in Nigeria are fake or unauthorized.
Study Route Is the Legitimate Path to the UK
Salami stressed that the UK government prefers international students to come through education routes.
“Once you study and gain work experience in the UK, care homes can legally offer you CEOS for free,” he explained.
He added that students who follow the proper route can later bring their dependents and build careers with UK-recognized qualifications.
TCL Global Offers Trusted Educational Pathways
Salami described TCL Global as a trusted agency with over 1,000 UK student placements in the last five years.
He credited their success to honesty, experience, and tailored support for each student.
“As a former international student with two UK master’s degrees, I understand the journey firsthand,” he said.
He encouraged aspiring students to work with tested agencies like TCL Global to avoid scams.
Many Nigerians Regret Care Route Migration
According to Salami, the last three years have been difficult for migrants using the Care Route Visa.
“Most did not expect the challenges they met in the UK. Their dreams turned into depression,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to stop paying for CEOS and warned against selling properties to fund illegal migration channels.
Scholarships and Tuition Discounts Still Available
Salami highlighted that many UK schools now offer 30% to 70% tuition discounts and partial scholarships.
“These scholarships aren’t 100% free, but they greatly reduce financial burdens,” he explained.
He encouraged students to explore affordable, legitimate education opportunities rather than fall for visa shortcuts.
Over 400 Nigerians Attend the Study Abroad Expo
Salami said the event drew over 400 participants, eager to get clarity on studying and living in the UK.
He noted that Nigerians are increasingly cautious due to widespread misinformation during the peak “japa” migration wave.
University Representatives Promote Genuine Opportunities
Yewande Ayoade Adewale, West African representative for the University of Central Lancashire, praised TCL Global’s efforts.
She emphasized that UK universities offer practical courses, student support, and scholarships.
“Our university ranks as one of the most affordable in the UK,” she noted.
She also said 91% of undergraduates return for postgraduate studies due to a friendly and supportive environment.
Trusted Partnerships Ensure Student Success
Adewale revealed that her institution partners with agencies like TCL Global to guide students from application to arrival.
She assured students of visa support, academic guidance, and a safe learning environment.
Final Advice: Don’t Pay for Caregiver Certificates
Salami ended with a warning: never pay for caregiver certificates or sponsorship letters.
He advised aspiring migrants to use trusted student visa routes and seek genuine travel consultations.
