Apostacy: “No Such Case Exists!” Zamfara Denies Trial Of Woman For Converting To Christianity

The Zamfara State Government has denied reports that a 22-year-old woman named Zainab Muhamadu is facing trial in a Sharia court for converting from Islam to Christianity.

According to the government, no such case is before any court in Zamfara State. Authorities described the story as false, dangerous, and designed to create religious tension. They warned that spreading such unverified information risks inciting unrest in an already delicate national climate.

Government officials confirmed that the woman shown in a widely circulated photo is not from Nigeria. Investigations revealed that the image originated from a different country and had no link to any trial in Zamfara.

The government said the report aimed to attract public attention, discredit the state, and spark religious division. It condemned the use of social media to spread unverified claims and called for responsible reporting from the public and media organisations.

Officials urged security agencies to investigate the source of the misleading story and take appropriate legal action against its promoters. They insisted that no individual in Zamfara is facing prosecution or punishment for changing their religion.

Zamfara State operates both civil and Sharia legal systems, but the government maintained that constitutional rights to freedom of religion remain protected. They emphasized that the state is not prosecuting any resident for changing their faith or religious affiliation.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens regardless of religion and pledged to continue working to maintain peace and order. It also called on the public to verify stories before sharing them, especially when they concern sensitive religious issues.
