Anambra Lawyer Accused Of Shocking Child Abuse And Attempted Murder Paraded By Police
In a disturbing revelation, the Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police Force has announced its intention to prosecute Adachukwu Helen Okafor Esq, a lawyer from Anambra, for alleged attempted murder and child abuse against her 10-year-old maid.
The case gained widespread attention after Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs, placed a N2 million bounty on Okafor’s capture. This followed reports that Okafor had inflicted severe injuries on her young maid, including inserting a hot knife into the child’s private parts, burning her cheeks and buttocks with a hot iron, and subjecting her to various forms of physical abuse.
Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Olabisi Okuwobi, the National Coordinator for Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), revealed these shocking details during a press briefing in Abuja. He recounted the harrowing ordeal that the young girl endured at the hands of Okafor, who accused her of misconduct involving her own son.
Okuwobi narrated the events of January 29, 2024, when Okafor allegedly tied up the child, subjected her to brutal torture, and left her locked in a toilet without food for over a day. The incident came to light when Okafor delivered the injured and naked child to her aunt, prompting bystanders to record the scene and alert the authorities.
Despite Okafor’s initial attempts to evade capture, intensified efforts led by Kennedy-Ohanenye and the police eventually led to her arrest. Okafor, who is a mother of four, now faces serious charges, while the young victim continues to receive medical treatment for her extensive injuries.
Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to seeking justice for the victim, ensuring that Okafor’s assets have been frozen pending legal proceedings. She urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against such heinous acts and pledged to keep the public informed as the case progresses.
As the nation grapples with the appalling nature of the allegations, authorities vow to pursue the case diligently, sending a strong message against child abuse and affirming the importance of protecting the rights and welfare of vulnerable individuals within society.
