Anambra Lawmaker Takes Appointment To Teach In Alma Mater As Payback

The Lawmaker Representing Awka South 1 State Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Henry Mbachu, has taken appointment to teach in Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka.

The lawmaker, who was also a former student of the school, and who had started his teaching career there too, would be teaching physics.

The lawmaker had earlier embarked on an oversight visit to the school on June 27, 2023, before applying to the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, to teach in the school.

In a letter addressed to the lawmaker from the office of the commissioner for education, the commissioner granted the request, while also praising the lawmaker for the gesture.

The lawmaker, who resumed classes with his students on Tuesday, spent two hours with them teaching, before moving to the state House of Assembly to join his colleagues for the plenary.

Mbachu said: “I was a student of this great citadel of learning. I also started my career as a teacher in this school. The foundation of the educational qualities I possess in this life was laid here. I achieved it through dedication and steadfastness.

“For me, doing this is a way to give back and show appreciation for what I gained from this institution.”
