Anambra Government To Prosecute Detained Native Doctors

The Anambra State government has announced plans to arraign native doctors currently in custody in court once investigations are completed. This was disclosed by Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, during an interview with the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) over the weekend.

Mefor emphasized that the Professor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration is committed to restoring order in the state by eradicating criminal activities. He clarified that the government is not opposed to traditional worship but is focused on combating crime and those who facilitate it, including native doctors who allegedly prepare charms for criminals.

To date, three native doctors have been arrested for allegedly promoting money rituals and creating charms for criminals. Those in custody include Chidozie Nwangwu, known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, Onyebuchi Okocha, also known as Onyeze Jesus, and another individual from Okija in Ihiala known as Eke Hit. They remain in custody pending further investigation.

If convicted, these individuals will face sentencing under the provisions of the new Anambra Homeland Security Law. The government’s actions aim to address concerns about criminal activities linked to certain traditional practices while ensuring that legitimate cultural practices are respected.
