Amotekun Arrests Five Students For Rape Of Female Classmates In Oyo

In a troubling incident, officers of the Amotekun Corps in Oyo State have arrested five male students from Ejioku Community Grammar School for allegedly ambushing and raping female students from another school. The suspects, identified as Mayowa (17), Joshua (16), Seun (17), Sunday (16), and Basit (17), were apprehended following reports of the assaults, which occurred on December 5.
Kazeem Babalola Akinro, the second-in-command of the Amotekun Corps, confirmed the arrests on December 24. Investigations revealed that these incidents are not isolated; rather, they appear to be part of a disturbing trend among male students in the area.
One victim, a 14-year-old girl, reportedly had her hymen forcefully broken during the assault after two of the boys failed to penetrate her. A concerned parent noted that such behavior has become so prevalent that the school principal had previously issued warnings to students. This issue was also discussed at a recent Parent-Teacher Association meeting, where parents were urged to speak to their sons about their actions.
The assaults took place when one of the suspects used his motorcycle to chase the girls into a nearby bush, where his accomplices were waiting. While four girls were targeted, three parents chose not to speak out about the incidents.
The case has drawn attention from Barrister Modupe Aderemi, who has committed to ensuring justice for the victims. She recounted a harrowing conversation with one of the affected girls, who described being threatened and assaulted by Mayowa while pleading for mercy. The girl’s family has since attempted to distance themselves from the case, fearing social stigma.
The suspects have admitted their involvement in the assaults during interrogations, with some detailing how they lured the girls into secluded areas under false pretenses. The case has now been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation as authorities work to address this alarming situation and prevent future occurrences.
