Alleged Nepotism: Civil Society Consortium Calls For CJN Ariwoola’s Resignation

The Civil Society Consortium on Judicial Accountability (CSCJA) has demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Olukayode Ariwoola, alleging abuse of office and favouritism in recent judicial appointments.
During a peaceful protest in Abuja, public interest lawyers expressed outrage over the appointment of Ariwoola’s biological children as judicial officers. Martin Obono, leader of the group, accused the CJN of appointing his son and daughter to prominent judicial positions, citing nepotism and conflicts of interest.
The group delivered a letter to the CJN demanding his resignation and urged an independent inquiry into the appointments. They emphasized the importance of upholding ethical standards in the judiciary to maintain public trust and fairness in legal proceedings.
The protesters called for Ariwoola to recuse himself from the National Judicial Council pending investigation and requested swift disciplinary action if found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers.
The allegations have sparked concerns about nepotism and threaten to undermine the integrity of the judiciary, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in judicial appointments.
