Akpabio Expresses Sympathy For Nigerians Facing Economic Hardship
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed empathy for Nigerians grappling with economic difficulties, acknowledging the significant challenges many citizens face. Speaking as the Senate reconvened after an eight-week recess on Tuesday, Akpabio stressed the responsibility of lawmakers to address these issues with “urgency and compassion.”
Despite reports from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicating a slight easing of inflation over two consecutive quarters, many Nigerians continue to endure rising living costs and economic instability.
“In the face of rising economic pressures, our fellow citizens have been grappling with the harsh realities of inflation, soaring living costs, and an unpredictable market,” Akpabio stated.
“These challenges have tested the very fabric of our society, and I stand here today to express our deepest empathy for every Nigerian who bears the burden of these trying times. Your struggles are not lost on us; it is our sacred duty, as your representatives, to respond with urgency and compassion.”
Akpabio acknowledged that while challenges persist, there have been some positive developments under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure.
“Amidst these trials, we have also seen commendable strides in various sectors, thanks to the Executive Arm led by His Excellency President Bola Tinubu,” he said. “Our agricultural initiatives are beginning to bear fruit, and the strides made in infrastructure development are paving the way for a brighter future.”
However, he cautioned that the progress made must not detract from pressing issues like national security, emphasizing the need for lawmakers to take decisive action in addressing the country’s growing insecurity.
Akpabio concluded by urging his colleagues to focus on policies that promote economic stability, enhance security, and foster social justice to better safeguard the welfare of all Nigerians.
