Adegboruwa Urges Tinubu To Reduce Cabinet Size Following Orosanye Report
In a significant development following the decision to implement the Orosanye report, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-olu Adegboruwa, has called upon President Bola Tinubu to kickstart the process by downsizing his cabinet.
The directive to execute the Oronsaye report was made during Monday’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by President Tinubu.
The Orosanya report, which advocates discontinuing government funding for professional bodies and councils to allocate more resources to capital projects, highlighted the staggering number of 541 Federal Government parastatals, commissions, and agencies. It suggested reducing 263 statutory agencies to 161, abolishing 38 agencies, and merging 52 others. Additionally, the report proposed reverting 14 agencies to departments within ministries to streamline government operations.
In an interview with TheCable on Monday, Adegboruwa stressed that the current cabinet size is excessive, urging the President to kickstart the report’s full implementation, beginning with the presidency.
Adegboruwa emphasized the urgent need to curb bureaucratic waste, especially in light of technological advancements.
While commending President Tinubu for his commitment to implementing the Oronsaye report and reducing the cost of governance, Adegboruwa underscored the necessity for the President to lead by example. He urged Tinubu to merge ministries with minimal impact and to trim the number of aides accompanying him on official trips.
Adegboruwa’s call for action reflects growing pressure on the government to streamline its operations and optimize resources in line with the recommendations of the Orosanye report.
