Abuja Court Sentences Man To Six Months For Impersonation In 2019 UTME
A Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, has sentenced Jide Josiah Jisos to six months in prison for impersonation during the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The sentence, issued by Chief Magistrate Hon. Justice Folashade Oyekan on October 24, 2024, includes an option for Jisos to pay a fine of N100,000.
Jisos was apprehended by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officials while overseeing the UTME at Brix Academy in Abuja. Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, reported that Jisos had posed as a representative of a non-governmental organization (NGO) supposedly monitoring the exam.
JAMB staff became suspicious when Jisos could not adequately explain his affiliation or purpose, leading to his handover to security for further questioning. Under interrogation, Jisos confessed that he was not associated with any NGO and had entered the exam hall to help his daughter take the UTME.
