The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun questioning former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ohanenye, over allegations of misappropriation, procurement violations, and diversion of public funds amounting to ₦138.4 million.
A top EFCC source revealed that Ohanenye arrived at the commission’s headquarters around 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2025, and has since been facing interrogation regarding her alleged role in the fraudulent activities linked to the 2023 budget allocation for the ministry.
The source disclosed, “Investigators are probing her involvement in the alleged diversion of funds meant for the P-BAT Cares for Women Initiative, which were instead used for personal enrichment.”
Ohanenye was one of five ministers dismissed by President Bola Tinubu during the 19th Federal Executive Council meeting in October 2024. Following her removal, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim, former Minister of State for Police Affairs, was appointed as the new Minister of Women Affairs.
Attempts to obtain an official statement from the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful as of the time of this report.
The investigation continues, with expectations that further details will emerge in the coming days.
