Nigerian Lawyers Must Uphold Rule Of Law, Justice Adegbehingbe Urges

Nigerian lawyers serving in government and regulatory agencies have been urged to ensure their clients uphold the rule of law to maintain order in society.
Justice Bode Adegbehingbe made this call in Akure, Ondo State, during the inauguration of the Ikare-Akoko branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the investiture of Kofo Salam-Alada, Director of the Legal Department, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as Grand Patron of the branch.
Delivering a lecture titled “A Critical Appraisal of the Roles of Lawyers in Government or Regulatory Agencies”, Adegbehingbe cautioned against legal practitioners colluding to undermine justice, emphasizing that lawyers should guide their clients to respect court rulings and legal statutes.
He stressed that lawyers owe allegiance not just to their employers but to society, adding that adherence to the rule of law would promote transparency, reduce litigation, conserve resources, and foster national unity.
The NBA Ikare-Akoko Branch Chairman, Omotan Ogunmodede, Esq., highlighted that the association honored Kofo Salam-Alada and Adeboro Adam, Esq., as Grand Patron and Patron, respectively, in recognition of their contributions to the legal profession and the Akoko community.
