NBA President Hails Tinubu’s Assent To Nigeria Maritime University Bill

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the Nigeria Maritime University Bill into law, describing it as a historic milestone.

In a statement made available to The Metro Lawyer (TML), Osigwe noted that the establishment of the Nigeria Maritime University comes after years of deliberation on possible solutions to address agitation in the Niger Delta region.

“The Nigeria Maritime University will not only create jobs for the people and residents of the Niger Delta but will also provide opportunities for Nigerians to acquire specialized skills in the maritime sector,” Osigwe stated.

He emphasized that the President’s assent to the bill is a significant step toward consolidating peace and fostering development in the region.

The NBA President further urged the people of the Niger Delta to safeguard the institution and ensure that it remains a conducive environment for the training of future maritime professionals.

Tinubu’s approval of the bill is expected to boost Nigeria’s capacity in maritime education, enhance economic opportunities in the region, and contribute to the country’s overall development in the sector.
