Man Arrested After Teenager Dies During Childbirth Following Alleged Impregnation
A 23-year-old man, Azeez Oladimeji, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly impregnating a 17-year-old girl, Bisola Ganiyu, who tragically died shortly after giving birth in the Ajuwon community of Ifo Local Government Area.
CSP Omolola Odutola, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed to Punch that the teenager died following a Cesarean section on Tuesday, January 28.
According to police reports, Ganiyu, a resident of Yeti Sofolabo Street, Baale Akinosi, was allegedly abandoned by Oladimeji after he impregnated her and refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.
The situation escalated when Ganiyu’s father, Egbekunle, reported to the police that his daughter was in severe pain and needed immediate medical attention. She was taken to a nearby maternity clinic where she underwent surgery. While the newborn survived the procedure, Ganiyu unfortunately succumbed to complications despite the medical team’s efforts to save her.
“The suspect impregnated a 17-year-old girl. The father accused him of abandoning her during the pregnancy. Following this heartbreaking incident, detectives from Ajuwon Division visited the hospital. Bisola’s body has been retrieved and deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe, while Azeez Oladimeji has been arrested as investigations continue,” Odutola stated.
