JUSUN Suspends Over Three-Week Strike In Abia After MoU With Government

The Abia State branch of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its industrial action, which lasted over three weeks, following a resolution reached with the state government.

The strike, which began on January 2, 2025, was called off after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed over the weekend in Umuahia, the state capital.

At the heart of the dispute was the implementation of the Consolidated Judicial Salary Structure (CONJUSS). According to the MoU, both parties have now resolved all differences regarding the salary structure.

In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, the government confirmed it had begun arrangements for the payment of outstanding entitlements.

“Government, therefore, expects that the ongoing strike be called off immediately to pave the way for the reopening of our courts,” the statement read.

Following the agreement, LEADERSHIP gathered that JUSUN leaders are expected to convene a congress soon to officially announce the suspension of the industrial action and resume normal court activities across the state.

The resolution brings relief to the judiciary in Abia, as court closures have disrupted legal proceedings and caused delays in the administration of justice.
