Tinubu Praises Finland For Action On Simon Ekpa, Stresses National Unity
President Bola Tinubu has commended the Finnish government for its decisive action in the arrest and detention of Simon Ekpa, emphasizing that his administration will not tolerate actions or rhetoric that threaten Nigeria’s unity.
The President made the remarks on Friday while receiving Letters of Credence from the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Sanna Selin, at the State House in Abuja. He lauded Finland’s timely intervention, which he said safeguarded Nigeria’s integrity and promoted peaceful coexistence.
“I must thank you for your commitment to safeguarding human rights in this matter. Nigeria is indivisible. We’ve faced turbulent times and will not condone anything that promotes terrorism. Stability and cohesion are vital for our progress,” Tinubu said.
President Tinubu underscored his administration’s focus on rule of law, stability, and development, noting, “I am a product of activism, but never divisiveness. Our watchword must be unity to ensure the country moves forward.”
The Finnish Ambassador highlighted her country’s commitment to bilateral cooperation and praised Tinubu for his bold economic reforms. “Simon Ekpa’s activities had hindered relations, but with the evidence provided by your National Security Adviser, progress is being made. Cooperation between our countries is now thriving,” she said.
Tinubu also welcomed Letters of Credence from the European Union Ambassador, Mr. Gautier Mignot, and the Algerian Ambassador, Hocine Mezoued. He described the EU as one of Nigeria’s top trading partners and called for enhanced economic ties, including support for digital transformation and automation of services.
“Reforms in Nigeria are aimed at fostering growth and prosperity. With our vibrant and youthful population, we are a hub for investment,” Tinubu stated.
The meeting underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships while maintaining the unity and stability of Nigeria.
