Zamfara Governor Honoured By NBA, Emphasizes Integrity And Courage As Foundations Of The Rule Of Law
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has highlighted the critical roles of technical expertise, moral courage, and integrity in upholding the rule of law. The Governor made this assertion on Monday as the guest of honour at the 2024 Annual Law Week organized by the Gusau branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, it was revealed that Governor Lawal received an award recognizing his legacy and impact on the people of Zamfara State. The award was presented by the NBA Gusau Branch Chairman, Mu’azu Shehu Ahmad.
Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal commended the NBA for creating platforms that foster dialogue on justice, democracy, and the rule of law. He described the event’s theme, “Upholding the Rule of Law: A Tool for Democratic Development,” as both relevant and timely.
“The theme underscores the essential role of the legal profession in shaping society by embedding values of equity, justice, and accountability,” Governor Lawal stated.
He further stressed the importance of collective dedication to the rule of law in strengthening democracy and societal harmony.
The Governor also praised the NBA Gusau branch for its commitment to justice and called on legal professionals to uphold ethical standards, ensuring their role as defenders of justice and hope for all seeking fairness.
In his address, Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and stability in Zamfara State, working to address insecurity and create a safe environment for citizens. He also highlighted the importance of continuous legal education and professional development in advancing the justice system.
“Law is dynamic and requires constant learning and adaptation. I encourage leveraging opportunities like this Law Week to remain at the forefront of legal innovation and practice,” he said.
Expressing gratitude for the award, Governor Lawal described it as a recognition of his administration’s efforts to combat insecurity, uphold the rule of law, and drive infrastructure development.
“This award is not just a personal honour but a testament to the collective efforts of all who have worked tirelessly alongside me to build a safer, fairer, and more prosperous Zamfara State,” he concluded.
