Police Arrest Alleged Kidnappers Of Akwa Ibom Lawyer, Niece After Shootout

 

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued Emmanuel Ubengama, a Director in the Ministry of Justice, and his niece, following their abduction on December 4, 2024. The victims were found tied up in a purpose-built soakaway at the kidnappers’ hideout in a forest in Ikot Ukpong Village, Abak Local Government Area.

During the rescue operation, three suspects were neutralized, while two others, identified as Ability Etim Samuel (45) and David Vincent Samuel (36), were arrested.

Speaking at a press briefing in Uyo on Monday, January 13, 2025, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, shared details of the operation.

“A distress call was received regarding the abduction of a Director in the Ministry of Justice and his niece by five armed men along the Abak-Ikot-Abasi road,” he said.

“Acting swiftly, our operatives stormed the kidnappers’ den in a forest within Ikot Ukpong. A thorough search led to the victims being rescued unharmed. Their vehicle, abandoned along Etinan Road, was also recovered alongside the Toyota Sienna used by the suspects.”

CP Azare confirmed that further investigations are underway, with efforts focused on apprehending other members of the gang and recovering their weapons.

This successful operation underscores the command’s commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents in Akwa Ibom State.
