Governor Mbah Approves Salary Review For Enugu Customary Court Judges And Members

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has approved a salary increase for the 459 customary court judges serving in the state’s 153 customary courts.

The announcement was made on Monday through a statement by Reuben Onyishi, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media. According to Onyishi, the revised salaries will take effect starting January 2025, aligning with the state’s recently established minimum wage of ₦80,000.

The adjustment follows Governor Mbah’s decision to raise the minimum wage in Enugu State from ₦70,000 to ₦80,000, reflecting the rising cost of living.

Onyishi noted that the approval came in response to a memo dated November 25, 2024, submitted by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legal Matters, Osinachi Nnajieze. Governor Mbah reportedly acted promptly and “graciously” approved the salary review to ensure improved welfare for the customary court judges and members.

This move underscores the administration’s commitment to supporting judicial officers and enhancing the justice system in Enugu State.
